Designers ‘lovingly’ deck out 1906 San Francisco mansion on market at $20M. Behold it

A glamorous, four-story mansion built in 1906 on a premiere block in San Francisco’s posh Pacific Heights neighborhood has hit the market for nearly $20 million.

The residence, 2698 Pacific Ave., spans 11,000 square feet and was recently renovated and then transformed throughout with contemporary decor by designers in the 2017 Decorator’s Showcase. Showcase proceeds benefit San Francisco University High School’s financial aid program.

“I love that this home has been lovingly restored so that it still retains many of Newsom & Newsom’s glamorous period details, such as the wood paneling, beamed ceilings and wrought-iron balusters on the main staircase, as these are impossible embellishments to fully replicate today,” Nina Hatvany of Team Hatvany at Compass said in an email. “But it also boasts every modern amenity and underwent an extensive seismic upgrade and a thorough renovation on all four floors.”

The estate holds views of San Francisco Bay and Alcatraz from the top-floor family room and terrace. The bay view extends to the primary bedroom and bathroom, as well as the dining room.

The property has eight bedrooms, eight bathrooms, grand formal living and formal dining rooms, three family rooms, an eat-in kitchen, multi-car parking and a sprawling backyard.

The home is dramatic from front to back — from the circular, temple-style white marble portico and ornate balustrade roof to the magnificent staircase off the entryway; from the 2017 House Beautiful’s “Kitchen of the Year” by San Francisco designer Jon de la Cruz to the sizable, well-groomed backyard with turfed lawn.

Also, the living room designed by Jonathan Rachman is stunning in its green shades, coffered ceiling with gilded rosettes and stone fireplace with ornate carvings. In addition, there are two offices, a wet bar in the family room, a laundry room and a dog washing station.

“What sets this home apart from other luxury homes in Pacific Heights is that all the rooms in this home are utterly unique and showcase interiors by some of San Francisco’s most sought after designers,” Hatvany said.

The home was sold in 2012 for $8.5 million, according to public records. A substantial amount of work was done between 2012 and 2017, Hatvany said. The current owners purchased the property for $16 million in 2017, according to Property Shark real estate data, plus the cost of all the Decorator Showcase furnishings.

The seller decided to sell after relocating to the Los Angeles area, Hatvany said.
